The Network for Infrastructure Social Scientists Uganda (NISSU) is a professional network for social scientists who work in, or share an interest in, the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of infrastructure development projects.
Who is NISSU
The Network for Infrastructure Social Scientists Uganda (NISSU) is a professional network for social scientists who work in, or share an interest in, the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of infrastructure development projects.
Why was NISSU established?
NISSU was established in response to the growing importance of social science in infrastructure development, and the need for a professional platform through which social scientists can strengthen their knowledge, skills and professional practice, and enhance their contribution to effectively addressing the social dimensions of infrastructure projects throughout the project life cycle.
NISSU is a non-profit professional association dedicated to strengthening the capacity, professional development and contribution of infrastructure social scientists. It has been operational since 28 September 2021.
Infrastructure development extends across a wide range of projects that shape people’s lives, livelihoods, communities and the wider social environment. These include physical infrastructure, social service infrastructure, digital infrastructure, and environmental infrastructure and initiatives. Together, these projects have significant implications for people, communities, livelihoods, institutions and the wider social and environmental context in which development takes place.
What we do
NISSU strengthens its institutional capacity and promotes the professional development and recognition of infrastructure social scientists through professional learning, networking, knowledge sharing, ethical practice, advocacy and stakeholder engagement.
Target group and beneficiaries
NISSU primarily serves social scientists and liberal arts professionals who aspire to become, or are already practising as, infrastructure social scientists.
NISSU also provides opportunities for professionals from affiliated disciplines, and other stakeholders with an interest in infrastructure social science, to associate with and contribute to the Network through its different membership categories.
